Harka Raj Pariyar

Founder, International Adventures Treks & Expeditions Pvt. Ltd.

Harka Raj Pariyar spent years serving with the British Army at the United Kingdom's base in Hong Kong before retiring and returning to Nepal, where he went on to found International Adventures Treks & Expeditions, one of Kathmandu's established Nepal trekking and Himalayan tour companies. As the company's former Managing Director, Harka brought a level of discipline and strategic thinking to the business that came directly from his military background. Under his leadership, International Adventures Treks & Expeditions grew its client base, strengthened partnerships across the trekking industry, and built a reputation for reliable, well-organized Everest, Annapurna, and Himalayan trekking packages. He now lives in the United Kingdom but stays closely connected to the company. Over the years he built genuine working relationships with travel and trekking partners in the Philippines, the United States, England, and Dubai, connections that continue to bring international trekkers to Nepal and that reflect his ability to work across cultures and borders. Harka's interest in this work goes beyond the professional side of it. He has always been a trekker and traveler himself, and that firsthand experience shaped how he thought about what clients actually need on a trip, not just logistics but the kind of guidance that comes from having done the trek yourself. He has largely stepped back from running the company day to day, but Harka Raj Pariyar remains a respected figure within International Adventures Treks & Expeditions, known for his experience, his international network, and his long-standing commitment to Nepal's trekking industry.

Emma Pariyar: Growing Nepal’s Tourism Market Abroad

Emma Pariyar, originally from the Philippines, married Nepali native Harka Raj Pariyar in Hong Kong, and the couple relocated to Nepal around 1990. In the years before the company was founded, Emma worked at Hotel Karma, building a background in hospitality that would later shape how she approached the tourism business. In 1996, Harka Raj Pariyar and German business partner Peter Schneider of Sagarmatha Trekking founded International Adventures Treks & Expeditions as a joint venture. Emma took on a different role in the company, focused on building its international client base, particularly in markets that hadn't traditionally sent many trekkers to Nepal. Her clearest success came in 2007, when she organized the first Filipino Everest Expedition to Nepal. That trip opened the door to a steady flow of Filipino trekkers and climbers in the years since, a market that had barely existed for Nepali trekking companies before. She went on to do similar relationship-building work in the American market, helping International Adventures reach travelers well beyond the client base a small Kathmandu-based agency would typically expect to attract. Emma remains active in the company today, with her work continuing to center on the Philippines, the United States, and other international markets she's helped develop over the years. Her contribution reflects a different piece of the tourism puzzle than day-to-day trip operations: the slower work of building trust with travelers in places that had little reason to know about Nepal until someone made the case for it.

With over 28 years of Himalayan mountaineering experience, Dipendra founded IATE in 1996 to share Nepal's breathtaking landscapes with the world. A licensed trekking guide himself, he has summited multiple high-altitude peaks and remains personally involved in every expedition's planning.
