Depart Kathmandu at dawn in a private Bell 407 or AS350 helicopter, fly over the Solu Khumbu foothills, land at Lukla for a brief fuel stop and fresh mountain air, continue along the Khumbu Valley past Namche Bazaar and Tengboche — visible beneath you as toy-sized clusters of stone buildings — to Kala Patthar (5,545m) for photographs with Everest’s summit pyramid filling the sky.
