Gokyo Lake Trek

A 30 to 35 minute mountain flight into Lukla's Tenzing-Hillary Airport, followed by a gentle 3 to 4 hour walk downhill through pine and rhododendron forest, crossing the Dudh Koshi on the first of many suspension bridges. Distance roughly 8km.

Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440m)
Permit check at the Sagarmatha National Park entrance in Monjo, then a long climb alongside the Dudh Koshi, crossing the Hillary Suspension Bridge before the final steep 600m ascent into Namche. 5 to 6 hours, about 11km.

Short hike up to the Everest View Hotel for a first look at Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku, then time in town at the Sherpa Museum and, if the timing lines up, the Saturday market.

The trail splits off the EBC route here and drops into the quieter Gokyo Valley. A steady climb through rhododendron and juniper forest past Kyangjuma and Mongla, with Ama Dablam and Thamserku in view most of the way. 5 to 6 hours, around 11km.

Above the treeline now, walking open moorland with yaks grazing along the ridge and Cho Oyu coming into view ahead. 3 to 4 hours over roughly 7km.

The trail crosses the outflow of the Ngozumpa Glacier, passes the first and second lakes, then reaches Gokyo village on the shore of the sacred third lake. 4 hours, about 7 to 8km.

Early climb up Gokyo Ri (5,357m), 2 to 2.5 hours up, for the four-peak panorama. The rest of the day is free to walk to the fourth and fifth lakes or spend time on the Ngozumpa Glacier moraine, Nepal's largest glacier.

Altitude Change: Descend from 4,790m to 4,200m
Retrace your steps along the trail, descending through the serene alpine landscape and past the turquoise lakes. Arrive back in Dole, where you can relax and reflect on your journey. Overnight stay in Dole.

Continue your descent through rhododendron and pine forests, passing through small Sherpa settlements. Arrive back in Namche Bazaar, where you can enjoy the lively atmosphere and celebrate the completion of your trek. Overnight stay in Namche Bazaar.

Begin your final day of trekking, retracing your steps along the Dudh Koshi River and through picturesque villages. Arrive in Lukla, where you can celebrate the end of your trek with your crew. Overnight stay in Lukla.

Take an early morning flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and enjoy a free day to relax or explore the city. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.

One of our representative will pick you up from your hotel depending on your flight time, normally 3½ hrs. before the flight, and transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu for your flight to your next destination.
