Overview
The Kathmandu Valley is one of the densest concentrations of UNESCO World Heritage Sites on the planet — seven monuments (and the surrounding living cultural landscape) recognised in 1979 for their outstanding universal value. This 3-day cultural immersion tour takes you through three ancient city-kingdoms: Kathmandu (Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square), Bhaktapur (the best-preserved medieval city in Asia), and Patan (Lalitpur — “city of artisans”). You also visit the two greatest religious monuments: Boudhanath Stupa (the largest stupa in the world outside of India) and Swayambhunath (the “Monkey Temple” — 2,500 years old), plus Pashupatinath Temple — the holiest Hindu cremation site in Asia outside Varanasi.
Our heritage tour is guided by a licensed archaeologist and art historian who provides context beyond the guidebook: the meaning of the iconography, the political history behind each temple’s construction, and the living practices that continue inside these monuments today
